Put the device in DFU mode:
    1. Press the power and home buttons for 10 seconds exactly
    2. Release the power button while still holding the home button
    3. Keep holding until detected by computer
    4. Restore

What version of iTunes do you have? It has to be 7.7 or below for WinPwn to work (because it works with iTunes to jailbreak). I'm also not sure if WinPwn 2.x works with firmwares 1.1.5 and below. You'd have to look for an older version of WinPwn to be sure that you've gotten a version that works.

The screen should be black, so the flashing isn't bad. What error number do you get? If you have a genius bar, you have iTunes 8, which wont work. If you really want to be sure, look in the top menus for 'About' and look into that.

my itunes is 7.7.1.11 and my ipod screen is black just like if you have it turned off. and it wont turn on. also i did what you told me to do DFU mode. and all it does is when im holding the home button. the pod will show a white screen for about 2 seconds and then shut back down to the look of it turned off... and itunes will have a box saying "waiting for ipod" and then give me the 1605 error: An ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. please disconnect and reconnect the ipod, then try again. an unknown error occurred (1605)
i really need to get this fixed! i miss my pod!

YES!!! i got it. thank you. but now that i used to use Ziphone, and stoped cause it caused me quite afew issues. and with my first experience with winpwn/quickpwn i would like to know of a reliable source. and what i will need to have a clean jailbreak. (itunes version, ipod version, OS, and so on) i would appreciate it very much.

What do you mean a reliable source? For the firmwares or the software for WinPwn/QuickPwn? For firmware, go to this directory on your computer (with Vista, may be slightly different for XP):

    <User named folder>/AppData/Roaming/Apple Computer/iTunes/iPod Software Updates

There you will find the .ipsw files that you need to jailbreak when using WinPwn/QuickPwn, just select the firmware you are on currently (for best results with WinPwn and for QuickPwn to even work). Should be named 'iPod1,1_<firmware number>_<Another number>_Restore.ipsw.

For the right Pwnage software, blog.iphone-dev.org/ for the Devs and winpwn.com for WinPwn.

for 1st and 2nd gen ipods when the ipod wont turn on. put it into DFU mode described above. wait for the screen to show the connect to itunes. then restore. after that if the ipod is 2nd gen use quick liberty to jailbreak.
