A totally clean restore and jailbreak on 2.02 is quite good.
What finally fixed my phone was to do this:
Sync iphone
go into settings and clear all data and settings
Restore to stock 2.0.2
Re-pwn using winpwn 2.5
Set up as NEW iphone.
Resync but - do not sync appstore apps yet
Install Open SSH
Reboot
If you do not customize your theme skip the parts on Winterboard and Customize
Install Customize if you use it
Install Winterboard if yo use it.
reboot
Install your themes and customizations and apply what you like
reboot
Now if you had or want app store apps, you may begin to sync them only a few (3 or 4 at a time)
Be Patient. Wait for the little spinning wheel logo in the status bar to stop and disappear before doing anything else. Think of this like a slow Windows computer when you have too many windows open, it will eventually freeze up forcing a hard reboot. The iPhone appears to be similar, only in my experience if you need to hard reboot in the middle of an installation, often it causes enough system corruption to make things laggy or others not work.
If you dont want to jailbreak, I'd try the new 2.1. yes I know jailbreak is available but it is always wise to wait until the bugs are out.
