okay heres the problem. When you start your iPhone/iPod touch, your springboard generates whats called an application map. This is what connects your springboard icons to the apps and what makes the icons show up. When you install a program from installer, it adds the program, the cuts springboard and restarts it. Springboard is regenerating the map when you see the spinning circle or setting language. In cydia, when you install something, i just trys to regenerate the app map without shutting down springboard. Thats what its doin in the upper left hand corner with the spinning thing. Its essentially the same thing as the hard restart, only you still have the function of the app you are using. The reasing you cant go back to springboard is because its regenerating the app map, and so not up and running.
Please thank if I helped.
