itunes doesnt detect but windows does

i am currently on 2.01 and am trying to restore to jailbroken custom 2.01. i go into DFU but itunes doesnt detect that my ipod is in restore mode even though the screen is black and i get the windows new device sound.

Is it connected to iTunes while you are trying to go into DFU? Are you turning the touch off before you perform DFU?

you need to do it this way

1 turn off ipod touch
2 hold power and home button for 10 seconds
3 release power button but keep holding home button
4 plug in to pc and wait for itunes to recognize **keep holding button**
5 release button when itunes recognizes
