Thread: how do i get more memory or ram?

Hm I suppose you're technically correct. It always for some reason frees up some RAM for me though. Must be my imagination, I'll have to look into that.

How much RAM are you talking about?
If its < 3 mb, maybe....
JB adds a little extra overhead during the initial boot phase, but none of that should be left behind after the OS loads.
Got any kind of citation or reference for that?

Well, usually on my iP4 stock it runs about 320 but after I do the initial clearing I get up to about 350. Then I install all my jailbreak tweaks and it takes it back down to 300 lol.
Edit: I didn't mean stock. I mean before I install my jb tweaks.

Depending on what apps are running in the background (and how much they're eating)
it can go all over the place.
Best way to see the max free RAM for your current setup is:
* open SBSettings
* open Processes
* Close everything
* Free Up Memory
Rebooting isn't necessary, but it may give you a few MB extra.
For an iPhone 4/4s the top seems to be around 400mb or so. (with no tweaks installed)
An iPod 3/4 will max ~ 150mb
Get iPhone 4 over 400mb free ram

I think rebooting kills a lot of processes really. I'll be at like 80 MB and then I reboot and I'm at about 150 MB.

Thanks for the info, I tend to run iCleaner once or twice a week, reboot every other day ish and end all processes and close everything via processes more than once a day, but my RAM is still just about permanently stuck at less than 20MB! I'm pretty jealous of the OPs RAM to be honest! I'll try removing some language packages and see if it makes a difference at all...

Maybe remove some themes or tweaks too. Those can cause lag.
06-13-2012, 06:20 AM #29
I guess I'll have too :/ I already removed a load of tweaks that I don't use yesterday and it didn't seem to make much difference and as for themes, I removed all except for the ones I'm using to make my own theme last week and I only have two active at any time! So I'm pretty low on both at the moment, but I guess I'll have to painfully remove some of the tweaks I do like. If only there wasn't so much good stuff on cydia!

What tweaks do you have? Spire by any chance?
06-13-2012, 06:35 AM #31
Nope, I stayed well away from spire Some of my main ones are: Springtomize 2, Barrel, Activator, Gridlock, Infiniboard, SBSettings, Small Banners, Speed Intensifier, Status tweak and KBShortcuts. There are more, but these are the ones that I would have thought would be the worst because many of them work throughout the system, not just in one place (although that's a complete guess!)
With springtomize 2, there's the option to disable mobile substrate tweaks. If I do this to a few tweaks at a time, I assume I'd be able to figure out approximately how much each tweak is affecting my RAM?

In sbsettings go to more and all the way down to mobile substartes and you can turn them off and on like that.
06-13-2012, 06:47 AM #33
Thanks, I assume I'm right in saying that it doesn't matter which way I do it? Also, both lists of mobile substrates include some which I've unistalled via cydia, does that mean they didn't fully uninstall? And if so, how can I get rid of them? Thanks for all the help everyone!

If they still in there but not highlighted they gone. I got some like that also.

Ok, thank you , I'll look into it properly soon and see if I can hit 50MB! Do you know if any of the above are especially RAM heavy?
06-13-2012, 07:48 AM #36
I have most of them barrel, sbsettings,barrel,springtomize 2. I normally run around 245 to 250 ram. Keep ya multitasking down to that will help alot. I have about 20 something tweaks maybe more.
06-13-2012, 08:30 AM #37
You have barrel installed 2 times^
06-13-2012, 09:03 AM #38
Dam that's my problem
Also another way is in sbsettings go to process and free up memory good may to clean it up to.

WeKillApps is another good one.
