Thread: iPod performance

So if I remove language packs and keyboards from my 4th Gen iPod Touch (4.2.1), I will see a good increase in available RAM? My cousin has a 3rd Gen iPod Touch, and I jailbroke it on 4.2.1. I installed SBsettings, and his RAM was 125 MB. Mine is usually around 90 to 100 MB, until I "free up memory" using SBsettings, after which I get around 125 - 130 MB of RAM free. :/

Sorry I wasn't specific
it has a greater effect on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4. My iPhone 4 has about 350MB free ram when I'm not running DreamBoard. When I don't delete language packs I have about 300MB free.
iPod touch 4g I've seen usually maxes out around 140-160 ish. I think with the smaller capacity ones of course. If you normally have 90-130, you might see an increase to 140-160. More or less.
When I used to have an iPhone 3G, it was 35-40MB but deleting language packs only took me to 55-60 free.
You won't see too large of a diff except on the newer iPhones. But regardless, it is still a difference that may improve your device's performance.

Do you know which "major" (well known) tweaks that can lag your iPod? Ex: winterboard.
And what about barrel?

I used the link that your provided to remove the language packs, and it worked great!
Now when my iPod turns on, I have around 120 MB of RAM to begin with, and after freeing up memory in SBsettings, I have about 145MB.
Not THAT big of a difference, but still noticeable.
Thank you very much for the link.
I would probably have more memory free, but I kept english and Spanish languages. In total, the script deleted over 6000 language files. Its great.

Awesome lol, glad I could help.
ipodnew842, it isn't necessarily one or two particular items that can cause poor performance but rather a compilation of using them. Winterboard itself isn't too bad (still creates a noticeable diff if you've got some heavier themes going) but if you use other things with it then you'd notice slowdown. I can't really tell you what exactly off the top of my head, but DreamBoard does it. Creates a slight lag to my iPhone 4. Anything that modifies the look of the phone's interface really is what does it. I can't really think of anything else that can cause a slowdown.

See on winterboard for me I have a theme that changes the color of pop ups so will it lag it a lot? And dreamboard isn't really the best option for iPod 2g right?

That's not going to cause any issues. What does is heavier themes. Themes that skin the UI, or have widgets, but basic color changes on popups don't do much if anything

Ok if you don't mind. Can you tell me which of te tweaks I have will lag it the most? Thanks

Here's more (you can't upload multiple pictures on iPod I think)

And these are the winterboard themes I have. Nothing heavy I think

I don't see anything that can cause significant (if any lag). Like I said, heavy themes and theming apps tend to be the culprit.

Thanks!
Er a few more questions. Haha. So (sorry if you already answered this) is 50 mb as good as it gets on iPod 2g and does daemon tool help raise ram?
