Connect to iTunes

My 1st generation iPod touch is stuck on a black screen that has an arrow pointing to iTunes. I tried putting it into DFU mode and nothing happens. Error messages pop up and it says more info stuff. I've put iPods into DFU mode before, I know I'm doing it right. Has anyone else had this problem? Can someone help? I don't know if it's broken or what..
