Changing mac adress on but getting error

Hello,
I am trying to change the mac address of my ipod touch 2g on ios4.
But when I type ifconfig en0 ether 00:00:00:00:00:00 into the terminal it says:
"ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR) : permission denied"

What do I need to do?

You are in root?

Didn't even know it was supported with the new firmware. I know it was working in OS 1.x but that's a while ago
