Default Advice on iPod Touch problem?

Basically, ever since I updated my iPod's software, I haven't been able to sync my iPod. I've tried restoring to factory setting, but I don't think that's actually doing anything.

I used to have it jury rigged to let me manually move media on and off of the iPod, but I accidentally updated software again, and now I don't even have that. Whenever I try to add media, it times out and doesn't sync.

I know this probably isn't very much detail, but please let me know what I should do to find out more, and I'll do it.

I'm using the most recent iTunes version, and apparently the most recent iPod software, since as far as I can tell the restore function doesn't undo software updates. Which is... incredibly dumb, but what can ya do.

After trying to reset the iPod, having the syncing process hang for 10 minutes, aborting the process, and then reconnecting the iPod, for inexplicable reasons I can once again drag and drop media on and off of my iPod.

I don't know if I can sync. I'm a little afraid to try since, if things are the way they were before, doing so will fail and potentially mess up what I've got working. I'll try if or when I figure out something about what's going on.

Hey I think I can help because the same thing happens to my sister's iPod. So what I did is restore it on iTunes then set it up as a new iPod and media can now sync. If that does not call apple they should know what to do. Or look up downgrading program. Please tell if any works. Thanks for letting me help.
