iPod Touch 3G - no sound, weak wifi, and other weirdness.
Hey there, MMi. Hope you're having a great morning.
I've recently inherited an iPod Touch 3G that has some.. issues. The previous owner couldn't figure it out, and it's beginning to baffle me, too.
Basically, it doesn't make any sound whatsoever. Not through the internal speakers, not through the headphones, not through the dock connector.
What's even weirder -- when I try to play something, anything, it stops instantly. Touching a track and it slides over to the album cover view. The "play" button becomes a "pause" button briefly. Less than a second later, it turns back into a "play" button, and slides back to the song list. Up in the status bar, meanwhile, the little "play" arrow displays just as briefly before disappearing.
This odd behaviour isn't restricted to music, either. Videos do basically the same thing. The video player comes up, but doesn't show so much as the first frame before dumping me back to the video list. YouTube? Same thing. Tapping on a video brings up the player window, but then immediately kicks me back to the video info page.
What's more, the volume slider in the Music app doesn't disappear when I've got it docked, nor do I get "incompatible accessory" warnings that I get with my iPhone. Although the iPod charges fine, and when I dock it in my stereo dock the "play" icon appears briefly in the status bar as it tries to start playing and then stops instantly.
Other weirdness that may or may not be related... my wifi is very, very weak. I thought it was broken entirely until I moved right next to the router and it picked up the signal. The signal is one bar at best and disappears entirely rather often, where I have no problems at all with any of my other devices.
As far as I know the previous owner didn't jailbreak (if he did, he didn't save his SHSH blobs before upgrading to 4.1... dammit). I've tried restoring settings, and a clean DFU restore of both 4.1 and 4.2 developer beta, which it's currently running. Everything else seems to work great.. nothing weird stuck in the headphone jack either.
Any advice? Anybody even have a problem like this before? I've searched all over the place and can't find anyone who's had this problem, let alone a solution.
