What generation - which firmware? And other questions
Hi all...
1) I have an iPod Touch 8GB... I think it's the 2G, because iTunes offers the 4.0.2 firmware to upgrade... am I right?
2) The latest jailbreakable FW is 4.0.1. Here I can see only the 4.0. Is there somewhere the 4.0.1 to download?
3) Why in the URL of the 4.0 for iPod touch 2G there is "iPhone" in the URL "http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone4/061-7435.20100621.tr49t/iPod2,1_4.0_8A293_Restore.ipsw" - is it for sure the correct firmware?
4) When should I update the firmware with the "restore" firmware, or the "normal" firmware? What are the differences?
Youll need SHSHs to restore to it. If its an MB model you can use a custom fw by Sn0wbreeze (PC) or PwnageTool (Mac). If its an MC model and you dont have SHSHs you cant restore to 4.0.
You can try restoring to any of the 4.0 or 4.0.1 without SHSHs as Im not sure if Apple has stopped signing for iPT 2G yet. If the restore fails then youll need the SHSHs. Being an MC model you cant use custom firmwares. You also cannot ugrade to 4.0.2 as the only jailbreak for 4.0.2 is Redsn0w which only works with MB models and iPhone 3G.
The worst that can happen is you can get stuck with the "Connect to iTunes" sign. If this happens, go to ih8sn0w.com and download iReb. There should be a "Recovery mode loop fixer" make sure you read all the pop-up windows. And select iPod touch 2g. You will then be back to where you started before the restore.
