ITouch 1g newbie please help

Hi there I just bought an old I touch 1G from a friend. I'm a noob and I was reading about jailbreaking and stuff but all of the posts where too old, so I was wondering if someone could walk me through to upgrading my I touch 1g to 3.x or higher so i can have apps and all of the freestuff.

these are the specs
Itouch 1g 8gb 1.1.4 official firmware
I am running on windows 7 home edition

I would really really appreciate all of your help and also if you can post the links to the programs download

"free stuff" by jailbreak usually means pirated apps. If you mean standard Cydia legally free stuff then I apologize for the accusation. However, if you bothered to read forum rules my response is legitimate and not "stupid replies"
