No external mic, although this case leaves headphone jack usable. A Bluetooth headset is another good option too. This unit uses CDMA 3G (EVDO rev A or 0). I wonder if this will be a) affordable because of sprint's 4G rollout and b) will it be flashable to other CDMA 3G carriers

Maybe, but I would buy this for the 3G hotspot/case for the iPod. Would make me toss out my current one.
