Default Trying to downgrade 4.0 to 3.1.2 confusion

My iPod is a 2nd Generation 8gb MC model (I don't know if it matters). I went on Cydia to check if I had stored the SHSH blobs, and it said yes. So then I followed steps on how to downgrade. The first step is to navigate to “cwindows\system32\drivers\etc\” and open the ‘hosts’ file. I don't have a file named 'hosts' but I have a file named 'LMhosts'. I then opened that file on Notepad and pasted “74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com” at the bottom of the document. Then I followed the next steps but I am still getting error 3194. Can anyone help?

3194 error is from trying to restore using iTunes 9.2. It blocks saurik's servers. Firmware umbrella has a shot, but probably can't pick up your 3.1.2 shsh
