I have a weird Ipod touch 2g problem...

My original ipod docking cable cracked and started causing problems...
It sometimes worked but not always and not for extended periods of time. For example, on my main computer, the wireless internet adaptor will at some point stop working if the ipod is plugged in. On another older computer, the computer randomly freezes with it plugged in. In my car, my pioneer deck sometimes reports error 19 when first connecting the ipod.. a communication error. Windows reports that an ipod is connected on both computers and it's shown under my computer.


Anyhow, I just bought a new non-apple store ipod usb docking cable. It works flawlessly on the freezing computer and car deck, BUT my main computer doesn't detect the ipod touch with it... It says an unknown device is connected. It also doesn't charge the ipod, (unlike the other two devices which do!) and itunes does not detect it either. If I change back to the old flaky cord, the computer detects it and itunes is happy also.

What is going on? Anyone have any idea? I have tried forcing the ipod driver on "this cable" and while it does get the computer to charge the ipod, itunes still doesn't detect it.
