1st gen bizzare dock connector behavior
I've searched the internets and the closest thing i could find to this issue had no difinitive answer.
I've got a 1st gen in recovery mode and the doc connector is not working right:- I have tried connecting it to two seperate computers, one had no problem connecting to iphone 3g and tough 2ndgen. the other has never seen any i-product before and doesnt even have itunes. Neither computer recognized that a device was connected. I did this using a known good usb connector.
- I tried a different cable just in case, as well as other ports on my pc.
- I tried the charger that came with my iphone and a dock.
- If the battery is dead, it charges until there is enough power to turn on. After that there are no signs thata connection is made, even if i reconnect. I think the battery still charges even though there is no animation to indicate that. (i have been trying to re-kill the battery for a couple of hours).
- It the touch is off, it powers on when connected. Again, it shows no furter signs of being connected to anything.
- I tried raising the pins on the connector.
- While connected to my computer i CAN put it into dfu mode (black screen), though there are still no indication that it is connected. I know it was succesful becuase pushing the home or power button ilicits no response but frcing a estart brings back the apple logo and the connect to itunes screen.
If it weremt for the weird reactions i'm getting, id just say the connector is dead.

Sounds like dead mother board. Intermittent reactions are common with this problem.

Maybe not
I just connected the touch to the usb/firewire cable my GF got with her classic, just to see if the 6pin firewire made a difference. It definately made a noise and shows lightening on the battery. I dont have a 6pin port on my computer, so i might have to borrow someone's mac to see if it responds to data.

Ok you can try that, but that is odd, I didnt think any iPod tocuhes/iPhones supported firewire connection...... I know it doesnt support it on the 2g for sure.

I agree that it is odd. However, I do remember seeing that FireWire was still supported on the 1st gen. I am assuming that they operate on different pins on the dock connector. But I would also think that the power pins would be the same. Thanks again. I'll post when I get to test it.
