ipod touchscreen not working

when i turn on my jailbroken ipod touch, with firmeware 2.2.1, everything seems fine at first. the "slide to open" screen soon appears after a moment waiting. but when i try to slide the button, nothing happens. it isnt registering my touch. what happened? and can i fix it?

its possible it got slightly wet while in my pocket. i got splashed with a little water earlier today af work but it was on my other leg and i didnt think it got wet at all.

EDIT: I just checked and the indicator in the headphone jack is white without a trace of red or pink.
