Could I send text messages from my iTouch with my cell phone number and receive texts on my iTouch for free? Just a thought

i don't think so, but you can text from your iTouch.

Heres how: Using mail.app

Example: my number is 123-456-7890 and i have verizon. From my iTouch, i would email [email protected] for text, and [email protected] for pix message. To send a text/pix message to your iTouch, just send it as an email from your phone.

yeh they go to your email like a regular email

No, you won't be charged. Or, you could get an IM client (Apollo or MobileChat) and, here is how you can text someones phone (that is, if they've enabled mobile testing with their instant messenger, like in AIM).

Let's say the persons number is (123)-456-7890. Type this after hitting the new message button:
+11234567890 (that's +1, area code, phone number).

Pretty simple, but you could also use trpcltrbl's method.
