Think it depends...explore Cydia and you'll figure out what's good or not. SBSettings is a must, Winterboard for theming, just look around and you'll find something.

As for your friend's iPod touch, use Redsn0w 0.9.6rc8 to jb. It'll be tethered.

iFile is great for exploring your iPod's files and directories, and Speed Enhancer.

I don't like SBSettings. Causes major battery drain for me.

    agreed

And for cool stuff go to cydia then go to the tweaks section and browse around in there. You'll find some cool stuff just remember the things highlighted blue are paid.

Also jailbreak your friends ipod with greenpois0n RC5 B2, its untethered

It's not a theme. It allows you to toggle options on/off by bringing a menu down when you swipe your status bar.

BiteSMS, mask it with the stock Messages app theme, hide the original Messages app using Poof. Looks sleek and has awesome functionality for an SMS tweak!

I've been trying to do this but I haven't gotten it to work. I've used Rename but renaming the icon doesn't change the icons picture! How should I go about doing this?

You will require the following app, theme, and tweaks:
    1. BiteSMS
    2. BiteSMS to Green SMS Icon (this theme will be accompanied with Winterboard)
    3. Poof
    4. Icon Renamer

First, you will go to Winterboard and apply the "BiteSMS to Green SMS Icon" theme (this will mask the pink icon of BiteSMS with the almost identical green stock icon).

Next, you will hide the original Messages/SMS stock icon using the Poof tweak.

Finally, using Icon Renamer, you will rename your masked BiteSMS icon with "Messages".

You now have a sleek look-alike SMS icon for BiteSMS on your iPhone.

Is there any way to make the iPhone think that the BiteSMS app is the actual stock SMS app? that way, whenever I theme, the BiteSMS app will theme into the SMS app icon that the theme has.

This is for the individuals that don't want to theme the entire springboard and would much rather keep stock icons.

    "Where there's a will there's a way!"

I'm sure it's possible to achieve but it's a lot more than simply renaming an icon and masking it.

You'd probably have to go through a lot of binary work.

    Sorry!

Before, back when I had my 2g iPod touch jailbroken, I could use rename to simply rename the icon. And back then the firmware determined which icon's pic would be used depending on the name of the icon. So if I named an app "stocks" then the firmware would think that that app is the actual stocks app and would change the icon's pic accordingly. What happened to that?

Firmware update removed that functionality, I presume.

Good luck on finding on what you want!
