    hi vix,
Do you know what generation ipod it is? It shouldnt affect getting to 4.1 but it could help someone to help you. Also, how far do you get into updating it? Does itunes give you an error, does it just stop somewhere?

No problem, this is one of my favorite things to do, lurk the forums and offer my knowledge. Glad I could help. Might want to contact the seller and/or give him a bad rating if you bought it on eBay.

    Just follow the steps:
    1. Download iTunes 10 from Apple - iTunes - Download iTunes Now

    2. Download the iOS 4.1 firmware for your iPod Touch 2G/3G from Download iOS 4.1 IPSW

    3. Connect your device to the computer.

    4. Choose your iPod Touch 2G from the list on the left.

    5. By pressing the Shift key(in Windows) or the option key(in Mac OS X), click on the Restore button.

    6. Now browse and choose the iOS 4.1 firmware .ipsw file.

That's it! Now iTunes starts to update your iPod Touch 2G to iOS 4.1 firmware.

    Hope it helps.
