NEED HELP. ipod broken

Ok so heres the quick version of how it all went down,
I went to a friends house, plugged my ipod touch into his computer.
Right after i did so, he told me my ipod would probably never charge again. He was right
It wont sync, charge, or cut on
But I called apple and they said I have 20 days left on my limited warranty, so they can exchange it.
But heres the thing, my ipod is jailbroken and the apple store is rather far away.
I dont want to get out there just for them to discover it was jailbroken and not fix or exchange my ipod.
Will they be able to tell?
And will this void my warranty?

BTW, the appointment is on thursday at 4. so i need help rather quickly

Can you restore it to a stock firmware? If it is still recognized by the computer you should be able to restore it. That way they cannot tell that you jailbroke it.
