If you have an older iPod I would recommend Rockbox. While Linux can do a lot more, Rockbox is a lot simpler. It also has a really nice look. It has games and some nice feautures. You can learn more or get it at Rockbox - Open Source Jukebox Firmware

haha--whenever i see the title of this thread my mind automatically goes to borat. anyways, i'd definitely recommend the rockbox route over linux for any user just looking for a few more features while maintaining the mp3 player feel. honestly though...though rockbox and ipod linux have their advantages, there is nothing close to the simplicity and functionality of the default ipod firmware.
