Apple Gives Up Pod Race

Patently Apple is reporting the Canadian Intellectual Property Office published Apple's official notice of abandonment of the "POD" trademark.

This comes after seven long years of litigation attempting to secure "POD" as an Apple trademark. In the wake of the iPod's popularity Apple fought to keep third party manufacturers from cannibalizing the "POD" trademark. Also, it prevented competitors from branding their products with the Pod monicker. Hence, there are no "gamePods" or "mPods."

Apple issued a number of cease and desist orders between 2004 and 2006 as well as negotiating with companies to change the name of their products. Some notables include the "Profit Pod" arcade gambling machine and the company Gear4 that was known as PodGear until 2006.

While Apple hasn't been active in muscling companies who use the Pod name as of late, they continue to play the bully with the "App Store" namesake. Apple has filed suit against the Amazon Appstore.

With "POD" now abandoned by Apple feel free to copyright your own creative Pod product. I already patented the PeePod. It is a revolutionary bedpan that sterilizes and purifies urine into bottled drinking water for hospitals to sell in their cafeterias.

Oh, I'm creating the pimPod, which comes preloaded with OSX, Windows 7, iOS, Android, and yes, Windows 60.

My motto: why not?

Cost: $200.01

It has a full qwerty keyboard that is conveniently stored inside the device. Whenever you need it, just press the home button 26 times, and it will pop out of the 78 pin connector dock!

And if you ever need one, it also has a built in toaster. Not to mention the handy pencil sharpener! Just insert pencil into headphone jack, and twist!

Did I forget the flamethrower? Just pretend you are taking a picture, and 10.1 feet of flames will come out of the camera hole! Incredible! Just try not to flamethrower FaceTim. (Yes, FaceTim.)

I'd figure the "i" is the more marketable aspect of their names. Anytime I see an iProduct not made by Apple, I cringe a little.

The uberPod: it does EVERYTHING, full list of functions- Dual boots Linux and Win8 (yes it Already has windows 8!), built in microwave oven (don't place uberPod within 2 feet of head), lightsaber (we are not liable for any chopped of limbs), has a 193 pin dock connector (not compatible with anything except for what we approve), automatic location tracking that you can't opt out of, a 12" screen CRT screen, can transform into a smart car, and last but not least YOU DO NOT OWN IT YOU ONLY BORROW IT (see that? I just pulled a Sony on you).
