If there were another phone out there that could catch my interest I would ditch the iPhone and get the iPod touch. I just can't seem to find one. The wifi only kills it for me. Make the iPod touch available with a 3G connection and I am in.

That would be awesome, but don't expect to ever see that happen in a future Gen :P. iPT+3G=iPH, basically. But I understand what you mean, you want to have wirless internet for everything except the expensive phone feature$ and bill. There have been some 3rd party prototype iPT cases that enable a 3G connection via the iPT 25-pin slot for a specific carrier (see the news from the last month or two).
But still, if that would work or would be mass-produced, you'd still be paying for the 3G. Not only that, but Apple would totally find a way to prevent the use of it, for sure, like with what they have done with 3rd-party AV cables. Though, if the case would work with EDGE/Grip, one could use that free EDGE/GRIP. I don't remember what the APN was, but I saw it here in the forums in an article; search "free edge".
If iPTs had free wireless internet, that would be absolute pwnage!

Yes, that would be great. But apple is unlikely to ever do that. If they did give it data capability then no one would ever have a reason for buying the iPhone.
Anyways..... I personally like the design and idea of the new iPod Nano, however it is lacking some features that I was very much expecting. It is lacking: a camera, mic, and speaker. I was hoping that in the new iPod Nano they would not only keep the video camera but give it the ability to take pictures as well. I was also very disappointed when I learned that the iPod Nano (5th Gen) I bought for my mom could only take videos. And I don't believe this new Nano has a speaker like the last one as well (please correct me if I am wrong)
The Shuffle is not a huge leap but it is a very good one.
And I love the new iPod Touch. I'm buying a 32 GB asap

Heard the ipod touch 4g has a vibrate alert, that's a pretty cool addition. Not sure how it got missed at the conference though.

I would like to make this clear that the iPod Touch DOES have vibrating alerts. It hints that on the "accessibility" feature on apple's iPod Touch page. It specifically says:
"If somebody wants to start a video call with you, you’ll receive an invitation — along with a vibrating alert — on your iPod touch asking you to join. Simply tap Accept, and the video call begins."
Apple - iPod touch - Accessibility
It is under the FaceTime section of the accessibility page. I too am very surprised it was not mentioned at the apple conference as it is a VERY big addition in my opinion.
There is a teardown of the device showing the vibration motor here:
