Default Apple Likely Holding September 7th Event

Reports are coming in from a variety of credible publications and news sources that Apple has given the green light to a September 7th event in which the company will reveal "what's next." During the event, Apple will likely unveil the long awaited Apple TV (or iTV) update to go with a possible entree of music and television offerings, like a $1 video/television show rental service.

Bloomberg reports that "Viewers would be able to rent programs from News Corp.'s Fox for 48 hours, said the people, who declined to be identified because discussions aren't public. CBS Corp. and Walt Disney Co., where Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs is a board member and the largest shareholder, also are in talks about joining the effort, the people say." It is widely believed that the likes of CBS and NBC remain a bit tentative on the idea of 99 cent programming, for "fear of denting existing iTunes profits."

Although much speculation will swirl ahead of the plausible September 7th event, what is known for certain is that this date appears to mark the end of Apple's 'Back to School' free iPod touch offer, a scenario fueling talk that Apple will, at least, roll out a new iPod touch that will deliver - you guessed it - back and forward-facing cameras (for FaceTime video chat) and a host of bells and whistles (like an A4 processor) to make the newest iPod as analogous as possible to the iPhone 4.

" at lest, roll out a new iPod touch". not trying to be picky just picked this up.

Finally I am really excited about the iTV i am keeping my fingers crossed it will help keep the cable/Sat bill down that i complain about each month.

I love my AppleTV, especially the fact that i can stream my 1TB drive over my wireless network. My only complaints is the lack of 1080p support, I'm curious on if the iTV upgrade will support HD Streaming.. considering the iTunes store promotes 1080p downloads. Cable/Satellite would be + to, good way to get people to initiate a subscription.

You can already do this with your Xbox 360 using Windows Media Center and, I think, even through a PS3. Most people have one or both of them and anything you download off the internet is pretty much free...

I couldn't care less about a front-facing camera, I just want one in the back! I'll definitely be getting this iPod since I broke my last one a little over a week ago.

Call me crazy but I think the Apple TV's UI is the sexiest, I use to stream via XBMC before and it was clunky, unresponsive not to mention hard to manage genre's, album art, etc.

Popcorn Hour and YAMJ Google it. There's a bunch of different YAMJ skins. You'll sell your Apple TV in heartbeat

    iPhone 4 = Contract + Expensive
iPod touch = No contract = Not so expensive.

I can't wait for the iPad update!... but I'd rather have my ipad jailbroken.. so it'll be a waiting game for sure. I wonder if the 4.1 iPhone update will coincide with the iPad update and they'll both be at iOS 4.1?....
