as in take a piece of wood, build a set of USB and other inputs into it, and wire through the speakers?

Buy a cheap $50 USD dock, take the speakers and main unit out of the case, fit it into a piece of wood. Done.

I'm not even that technically inclined and I never took a class in wood shop... I'd just rather try it rather than spend the price tag they are asking. I'd rather put that money towards an iPad ^_^
