iPod "Fasting" Begins Today?

Could millions of iPods around the world catch a breather for, let's say, the next forty days or so?
Believe or not, there is a movement underway that could actually inspire many around the world to include their iPods on the list of items to sacrifice during Lent, a religious season of sacrifice known as Advent that begins with the observance of Ash Wednesday - which is today.
According to the UK's Telegraph:
The whole notion behind the suggestion, however, seems to have every bit as much to do with global climate change as it does the annual abstaining ritual. The Bishop of London, Richard Chartres, and the Bishop of Liverpool, James Jones, are specifically calling for a "carbon fast" for Lent. Nonetheless, the idea has gotten widespread media attention and could result in a lot of people adding iPods to their off-limits list for the next several weeks. The bishops of Liverpool and London have called on us to give up our iPods for Lent
There is, of course, a humanitarian theme behind the movement. Those who agree to give up their iPods for Lent are encouraged to calculate their "energy savings" and send the difference to a worthwhile cause or charity that serves the less fortunate.
Anyone planning to actually forgo their iPod for Lent?

So, The Church has decided to support AGW theory? Hmmm... I'm glad they don't speak for the entire "Body."

Yeah, you'll be the coolest person in the room when you pull one out and show it around, but that gets old fast when three other people have them and one person somehow has one that glows in the dark.

I'm not catholic so don't practice lent, but last time I checked iPods use very little amount of energy, how is abstaining from a small electronic device going to help the environment. People will end up sending like .25 cents for the energy there iPod would have used. Why not picking something like a washer machine and have people wash their clothes by hands. Now there is something that will teach someone to be grateful for what we have and save a significant amount of energy.
Also I think it's a dumb thing to give up seeing as an iPod can be used for good in a religious aspect in the fact that many religious podcasts and RSS feeds are available for download to iTunes or streaming if your iPod doubles as an iPhone and could give a practitioner of lent strength to make it through.

Interesting how Catholicism is buying into the whole "green" fad, considering the Vatican came out and denounced Avatar for promoting ecological spiritualism.
I guess that was BEFORE it made $2.4 Billion! Now they'll probably see all kinds of parallels to try and hook the youth:

Why give up anything for Lent?
Just give up in general.

Well unlike a lot of people on this thread I do believe in God but would not give up my iPod/iPhone for lent in a million years lol. Besisdes, Lent isnt about just giving up something, its about doing something to make yourself a little better person and me giving up my iPhone would not make me a better person, it'd make me an agitated one
And did you maybe think that the mods are deleting your posts because you come on here and bash religion? I mean, if this has religious connotations do you really have to come on this thread just to say "God is a joke, (insert atheist slur here)?" If you dont practice Lent then what are you doing on this thread? You atheists are just as bad at pushing your beliefs on others as extremist Catholics who take the Bible literally. Either you believe or you dont but the bottom line is NO ONE knows what the hell is going to happen when we die so your belief is just that, keep it that way and have fun in hell
