Introducing the Modified Spy Cam iPod

I've seen iPhone and iPods modified for lots of different purposes. But this one takes the cake.

The tech gurus at Slippery Brick have come out with a story on the iPod spy cam.

We’ve seen plenty of spy cameras, but this one takes the form of something more commonplace that many of us have clipped to our persons. A fake iPod shuffle. The “Mini MP3 Cam DVR” as it’s called is an old shuffle lookalike with a 1.3-megapixel video camera, a TF slot and a rechargeable battery.

Although I don't actually have the thing (and I don't plan on acquiring one) the specs are pretty awesome. Just turn it on, and your "ordinary-looking iPod" starts shooting 640 x 480 20fps AVI video, all of which is captured on the device's hard drive.

It doesn’t look like there is a US distributor, but if you can find one they’re cheap at $15 when you buy 3.

A lot of "hidden camera" security devices are really cheesy looking. I still recall my father's "golf clock" that looked so ridiculous and became such a ubiquitous staple at security camera providers that the device completely lost its luster and value. It makes perfect sense to modify otherwise unsuspecting mobile devices into hidden security cams.

But wait... there's more.

A little subsequent snooping around the web revealed that this iPod security camera actually isn't the first device of its kind.
Ecrater is also selling an "iPod Docking Station Self Recording Spy Camera" with 640 x 480 DVD/MPEG2 resolution quality.

Who knew?

Only problem I see with this is when someone breaks into your house, this cute little device will be the first thing they steal...LOL.

yeah it is pretty prominent on such a small device. And as common as these things are, it'd be pretty easy to spot. Cool device, but no super-stealthy.
