the Geohot logo doesn't show up. It's only showing connect to itunes sign & nothing happens.i did everything by the book many times. is there any other way excluding blackrain? please

there's a post on quickpwn.com that says blackrain somehow doesnot work with 8Gb 3rd gens.

no, it has to be 3.1.2 for blackra1n
2.2.1 at 3.0 is redsnow

I've been doing unlocks and jailbreaks on iPhones since the days when no GUIs existed for this stuff and it was hard to find info about it... and the much dreaded word Brick was even more feared than it is now (before we had ways out).

However, I feel like a n00b all over. I want to j/b an 8G Touch that was just purchased so a new one (MC464LL/A). I would say its arguably a 2G or 3G, but it is the newest model (currently). I am shooting for an untethered low maintenance jailbreak on this 3G 8GB Touch. My understanding is that Blackra1n is tethered for this model?

Does Pwnage Tool or QuickPwn work for this? I'm not even sure which firmware I would need because it seems like it is the same as the 2G 8GB. Do I get the 3.1.2 firmware for the 2G or 3G?

For the 8Gb Touch BlackRa1n is untethered, for some reason Apple didn't update the 8Gb and it still uses NOR rather than NAND.
If BlackRa1n is tethered for any device it means there is no untethered JB as all methods used 24Kpwn which has been blocked on

what i recomend is to update your ipod to 3.1.2 and use blackra1n. But if you wnat to use verison 2 or 2.2.1 until 3.0, you could use redsnow or pwnage tool. the web that i use to download ipsw is (Link removed because of warez)

The upgrade to 3.0 on an iPod Touch is a paid for upgrade so to host the file is illegal as it is considered warez which is why modmyi or any legitimate site does not host it..

when i downloaded it onto my IPod 2nd gen it says "downloading jailbreak data". is this supposed to take a long time?

Need more information, What device are you using? What firmware is it currently running? Which firmware are you trying to jailbreak?

Trying to jailbreak an ipod touch 2G, it uses firmware 2.2.1 and Im trying to jailbreak that firmware as well... Thanks for replying.
