Redsn0w beta official release from Dev Team

A month or so ago, the Dev Team released the patch codenamed redsn0w to fully jailbreak the iPod Touch 2G with its new processor. Within a week, we saw apps like untetherizer and quickfreedom to simplify the process of utilizing the patch. The Dev Team has now released a beta version of their very own app to jailbreak the iPod, but unlike the old QuickPwn and Pwnage Tool - they have released versions for Windows and OS X at the same time, and for the first time for Linux as well!
The apps are available at redsn0w.com for torrent download or here from the members download section. (All download links posted below).Beta O'Clock
Today at exactly 2 minutes past Beta O’Clock we are releasing a beta version of redsn0w. The release hopes to simplify the jailbreaking of your iPod touch 2G.
redsn0w is currently in beta as it relies on the user running it from the command line, but this new redsn0w functionality is being added into our GUI applications.
If you are not fully confident with using the command line, then hold off for those simpler tools that will be released sometime soon.

So, being new to the Apple scene, what will Redsn0w do for me that Quickfreedom won't? TIA

Woah, Linux? That's something new. Now who would use it on Linux? You can't even sync your iPod.

quick freedom sucks, it didnt even work for me. i had to do it on my Mac through the terminal command line which was a whole lot faster that quick freedom is. it took me literally less than 4 min to jailbreak my frnds ipod touch 2G. i going to try this one out.

Dang, i wish i still had my 2G!
I had my 2G when the during the first redsn0w and at that time i only had a Windows box in my hands. it was pure #$%@ running redsn0w in windows.
I want my 2G back *stomps foot and walks away like spoiled girl*

Just unlocked my 2G using the new software.
Worked fine, just a little tricky getting into DFU mode.
I just ran the app without the phone hooked up to get the steps down then hooked up and followed instructions and no prob.
Nice Job GuysI Don't Give A Damn, Cause I Don't Have One To Give.

Oh whatever I just tell it like it is, if you don't like to hear THE TRUTH then oh well skip over my post. QuickFreedom worked FINE for me and I the last version that I used was 1.1.1, now they are on 1.2.0 so I don't know how you guys are having issues with it. Perhaps it's your MACHINE or user error. Also I was able to change my boot logo and everything with QuickFreedom. Furthermore QuickFreedom is nice and GUI driven where this redsn0w beta is all command line driven. I do enough command line sh.it as it is, the last thing I wanna do is have to jailbreak my 2G via command line when I can use QuickFreedom and have it all be nice and GUI. Oh well to each their own.

^I'd rather use something like QuickPwn as Custom Firmwares are generally slower imo. And QuickFreedom sucks, it never makes an IPSW for me and just keeps saying waiting. Also I'd rather use the official DevTeam stuff as I'd get more support for that.
Anyways, I used this last night, it worked no problems. Literally took me 5 minutes to jailbreak. Amazing.

Will this add Cydia and Installer to the ipod?

Hi, I have an iPod Touch (2G) 2.2.1 and a Mac (intel) with 10.5.6
I tried to jailbreak it first with:
1) 'redsn0w-mac_0.1' and old (10.5.5) USB kext installed
and after with:
2) 'redsn0w-mac_0.1' and new (10.5.6) USB kext installed
the process looks that all gone OK (the Hard-disk and quickpwn icons showed up ok, and so did the progress bar on the iPod screen)
but in the end the iPod stucks in rebooting mode (stucks in Apple logo).Last edited by Therm; 04-12-2009 at 08:15 AM.

its not like you even have to do anything, you cd into the directory and then run the app. then from that point on it is just return...return...return...done but i guess that everyone has their own opinions.Furthermore QuickFreedom is nice and GUI driven where this redsn0w beta is all command line driven.
its actually the exact opposite, when you are using pwnage tool people have noticed a great speed improvement ast compared to a quickpwned phone... see one1's "how to have a blazing fast jailbroken iphone."Custom Firmwares are generally slower
