I don't want to complain, but you can do it much more easier.

Save yourselves the time and go download Quickfreedom (Windows Only) People are killin me with the full detail installs of jail breaking just to get it to reboot the device when you want it to. Quickfreedom provides a simple fast jailbreak and allows you to hard reset and turn off the device and turn it back on (hence hard reset)

Google Search: Quickfreedom (First Result on Google) - Enjoy.Best Regards,

Type in by Google QuickFreedom it's much easier and quicker.

Quickfreedom proceed the firmware and then you go to iTunes, hold SHIFT and click on the recover button. Then you get a map and you have to search for the firmware that quickfreedom has made for you. And after the installation. Voilá, your iPod 2G 2.2.1 is jailbroken. It's so easy if you just look a bit ferther.

So Close....
I'm getting very close to succeeding, but a final problem stands in my way. These problems have been up on the forum already but lack a solution.
First, the rslite wouldn't run through the terminal (error: cannot execute binary file), though downloading rslite from a different link on a different site (one optimized as "universal", i believe; I have a PowerPC) fixed this problem and ran just fine.
Now that I've reached the next step, the FINAL step, I get the following error message when I try to restore the iPod using iTunes with the CustomFirmware.ipsw: "The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored. An unknown error occurred (1)."
CAN ANYONE HELP? I have tried starting over completely several times, and nothing is working. (A point of interest: When i run the command "zip -r ../CustomFirmware.ipsw ./" it does not create the CustomFirmware.ipsw in my Jailbreak folder, but rather in the parent folder (my home folder), one folder above the Jailbreak folder. Does that matter at all?)
If anyone has any helpful information, I would appreciate it GREATLY.
Thanks....So Close!
******EDIT********
My apologies, I figured out my error. The "zip -r ../CustomFirmware.ipsw ./" command should be executed from within the expanded Custom Firmware directory, not the Jailbreak directory. OOPS.
I have fixed the error and jailbreak is SUCCESSFUL!!!
Sorry for taking up space! Hopefully the specifics of my post will help others who have made a similar error!!!!
Thanks to everyone for their hard work!Last edited by dracofeles; 03-19-2009 at 04:49 PM. Reason: Figured out my mistake

I'm getting a message that says in Terminal that this file and directory does not exist. The part when you have to type the commands line by line.
Nevermind, it actually worked. Just didn't see the "cd" in the Terminal screenshot. Thanks for the guide man! Worked to perfection for me. Although it took a bit of time, it was totally worth it. My bro is so happy right now
