ps suse is a much more advance Linux and much more powerful then most. Even my favorite ubuntu.
I love Linux I have it on my iPhone,ps3 too. Also my work phone is a actual Linux phone that phone I don't need to jailbreak or unlock cause I can use it on any network.
You might like gentoo cause that ones bare you need to build gentoo yourself as long as you have Linux drivers for your hardware it runs fine. But like you said I don't do photos I program

yes I have the power to run almost anything but my job is to find loop holes in software. I get paid to hack peoples systems. Try vbox but remember they use your system memory so when you set ram you share the ram between Linux and the other I'd your running in vbox or vmware so if you only have 1 gb of ram then give half to vbox or vmware your Linux will only have 512 mb and the other is reserved for os running in vbox or vmware. you are basically spliting everything in half so if you done have alot of power it will run like crap

I think suse is probably my favorite of the bunch. I am very unfamiliar with virtual box. I was looking at it and going... doh I forgot how to compile.

If u know the die you need to change to that dir then uncompress the file if it ends in . Tar or so on. Dpkg I package name

Or make install

Suse uses yast GUI tool for missing files

tar zxvf filename
cd software dir
./configure
make
make install
that's what I use

Everyone in windows needs to start there own thread. So you can get together maybe you'll encourage cmw to release it. Rumor is sometime today. I am sick defending him at this point cause the bugs should be fixed. Now that the update came it looks like it might be a few more days unless dev team gave him the source code and that's why the delay is longer now. You might see it today maybe sometime next week.

Ubuntu- great for entry level Linux user. You get Linux distro that's free and is a powerful distro. If you never used Linux this is a great starter.

Suse- for more advance users. Very powerful distro but to the last of my knowledge it will cost you to own it. If you want the free version then opensuse is were you go. Support is not as good as ubuntu

In my opinion every Linux distro has a strong point. So if you want get them both. There both great its the desktop enviroments that is the biggy. Without starting a KDE and Gnome war. Learn to use the both KDE is what a lot of windows user goto cause the Gui looks alot like windows. Gnome is different but each falls short of the other. Where Kde lacks gnome excels at and vice verse. Do your own research and make your decision but if your a noob to Linux I reccomend ubuntu cause they have a great community for support at your finger tips. U can purchase support also for ubuntu but your only paying for support not the distro.
Theres also many others out there. Some like gentoo are lite distro so when you use this one it comes with no drivers installed you your need to have all the linux drivers for your hardware basically the only drivers you'll have are the drivers you need to run yoour computer sorts like custom os.
Ubuntu is more main stream when it comes to distros also. Also it makes me happy the a billionare out there hates bill gates and has made os and doesn't make a dime of the distro
