In my understanding if I have a 3rd party AT&T discount and want to use that SIM I should NOT yet do this? And also when the time comes, since I've unlocked my phone and have been sitting patiently with 1.0.2, will doing a restore on my phone allow me to upgrade without bricking?

NO UNLOCKED PHONES WILL WORK WITH THIS. NONE! No matter what method you used.
poetic_folly, why re-direct everyone to this method instead of niacins? Are you playing favors? Or do you really believe this method is "less messy", and that post about the 1.1.2 seems to point to the fact you are not too fond of the tif exploit....
Care to explain your stance??
There is still alot of questions to be answered. Such as, what apps will work with 1.1.1. Also, will installer work, and when will all the apps work? Also that read me file is not very clear, and its funny how the dev team released this hours after someone else released another form of jailbreak. Coincidence??
I'm not taking sides or anything, I'm all for having the easiest method to jaibreak and add apps. But I believe both parties should take their time and not rush anything for the sake of the "no0bs" (telling by the posts in this thread alone, are plenty).
I just hope that everything will be fine and dandy, and we will have all those lovable apps available for installer for 1.1.1.Last edited by davalos; 10-10-2007 at 05:44 PM.

According to Gizmodo:
If you have used anySIM or iUnlock in your iPhone, don't upgrade to 1.1.1. You won't be able to apply this and you will brick your iPhone. Everyone else, including people who use TurboSIM or IPSF Paid solution, can do it.

the .tiff exploit is exactly that...an exploit of a security hole that Niacin used to get into the phone. In addition to being a security vulnerability that Apple will patch and that you want them to patch, it will be "fixed" now that it has been exposed...similar to the safari exploit in 1.0.1.
as far as using with any unlock solution, they all required modification of the baseband including the IPSF method (unless I missed something along the way...). That is the critical piece that currently prevents unlocked 1.0.2 users to upgrade, regardless of the method used.Black 16GB 3G iPhone w/bestskinever

The issue with niacin's method of jailbreaking is that it completely breaks any ability to sync with iTunes. I am not playing any favorites at all, no sir. I have no side on the politics of all this, and I think that has been obvious by the fact that our site allows links to anywhere and does not censor posts other than to remove swearing and spam. My reason for closing the other post and pointing here is to alleviate the swarm of people who were going to be saying: "hey, I did this and now I can't sync with iTunes!"
Developers and folks who are in the know as to how to hack can still benefit from the TIFF exploit, and discuss it here. I am just trying to avoid n00bs breaking things.

and in the spirit of modding I have reopened the other thread for those who want to attempt it or discuss it.
