Hmmm so downgrading made simple but the rest of the jailbreak for 1.1.1 requires Mac still...

I've still never seen a clear answer to this, and maybe because no one knows, but if you downgrade from 1.1.1, will future updates error out and cause problems? I only ask this becasue it seems that during the downgrade process you have to 'ignore some errors.'

No, Ive downgraded and upgraded and downgraded again with no problems. It works fine going back up after you go down . Now as far as apple launching a nother update such as 1.1.2 or whatever...Not sure, but currently its fine to go up and down the firmware ladder. hahaha. The only thing it doesn't do is upgrade / downgrade your BaseBand.

So in a nutshell, in all our haste to upgrade this fone NO one has figured out how to clone the original baseband and dump it like they did with the unlock. Now that makes no technical sense.....

What is BASEBAND?

I'm really sorry if this sounds like a dumb question but what is Baseband and why would it be important to downgrade it?

Thanks in advance for your detailed responses.

Maybe this question could be moved into another thread or its own thread if it's too off-topic for this one.

Why would anyone want to downgrade now that 1.1.1 has been jailbreaked (jailbroken?)

Shortly all the apps will be ported over to 1.1.1 and you will have all the benefits of 1.1.1 and 1.0.2

Is there anything about 1.0.2 that is better?

Baseband, I guess is a techy term for the iPhone modem. It's what lets your iPhone be a phone. It's important to downgrade, because an iPhone cannot be unlocked (currently) after it has been updated to version 1.1.1; even if you then downgrade back to 1.0.2. This is because downgrading from 1.1.1 back to 1.0.2 does not downgrade the modem firmware (baseband). So the phone can't be unlocked.

Unlocking simply means the iPhone can be used with carriers other than AT&T.

That good enough?

I assume that I can use a windows computer to do the downgrade and it will still work on a mac. Am I correct?

Alrighty, i just downgraded using the new ibrickr and finished it up and went to applications to install installer.app then gives me an error saying "iphoneinterface.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

then it just sits there frozen
