1.1.1 Filesystem Access Achieved!
Hackers "dinopio" and "Edgan" have managed to gain complete filesystem access in 1.1.1. This is NOT full write access, and jailbreak is NOT achieved yet. This was managed by using symbolic links before upgrading.

Our friend Erica Sadun over at TUAW has put up a blog about her experience recreating their method here. We're getting close, folks!

p.s. No, Mobile Music Store does NOT work on 1.0.2 yet. Erica surmises it may be missing 1.1.1 frameworks, or simply an activation cert like YouTube needs.

Is this just one step in a long process of designing a new way to achieve a jailbreak? or are we right on the brink of the next chapter of iphone modification with 1.1.1?
don't know anyone will really have the answer.... but just wondering

by the time u get 1.1.1 cracked, they will come out with another version to fix the loop hole, and it will take just as long to open up again.

This is great, but it really does suck that this isn't a more worthwhile update... There's pretty much nothing different.

When the big update comes out (i hope with the release of leopard), now THATs the one that's gotta be cracked.

If they have the ability to get inside the OS and have the ability execute code via the TIFF exploit, it would seem all that is necessary is to find a viable elevation of privleges exploit to be able to change permissions.

we need a complete custom firmware... With devhook like the psp... It'd be nice to have a root os that can munipulate firmware in a virtual environment
