Browse Your iOS Filesystem in SpotLight With 'SpotFile'
One of the coolest SpotLight tweaks we've seen in a while has hit Cydia on Thursday called SpotFile by iOS developer sharedRoutine. This tweak allows you to browse your iOS device's filesystem right from the SpotLight interface.
This is done by typing in the filesystem directory into the SpotLight search bar, and then all of the content in that directory is displayed. You can then tap on any of the search results to open folders or bring up additional options, such as the ones displayed in the screenshot examples below:
The options you get when you tap on actual files include:
- Opening the file in iFile
- Opening the file in MyFile
- Deleting the file
- Copying the path to the file
- Attaching the file to an e-mail
- Uploading the file to Dropbox
- Saving images and videos to your library
- Installing packages
The developer intends to add even more features to SpotFile in the future, including the ability to rename files and preview files right from SpotLight.
It's worth mentioning that SpotFile is a SearchLoader add-on and you can go into the SearchLoader preferences pane in the Settings application to enable or disable the filesystem search results on demand:
SpotFile works with all iPhones, iPod touches, and iPads running iOS 7.0 and later. 64-bit devices are also supported. The tweak is also compatible with popular SpotLight add-ons like SmartSearch, AnySpot, and Search+. If you would like to give SpotFile a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for $1.49 right now.
Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.1.2, SearchLoader
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.1.2
Editor's Rating: 5/5
