Default 'Hermes' Offers Quick Reply Functionality for Messages, Kik, and WhatsApp

If you like the idea of giving yourself Quick Reply functionality in iOS 7, but you don't want to be limited to only being able to quick reply with your Messages application to SMS messages and iMessages, but instead also be able to also quick reply to some other third-party messaging applications like Kik and WhatsApp Messenger, then check out a new jailbreak tweak called Hermes by iOS developer Phillip Tennen.

This tweak adds a new "Reply" button to your notification banners, as shown above, that you can tap on to reveal a Quick Reply interface. You can then type your reply into the text field and tap on the "Send" button to send your reply to the recipient. You can also tap on the Cancel button to cancel the reply if you accidentally tapped on "Reply" and didn't mean to.

Since the tweak works with not only Messages, but also Kik and WhatsApp Messenger, you can also expect to see that "Reply" button in the notification banners for incoming notifications from Kik and WhatsApp Messenger messages. The reply input interface looks the same for those applications as well, except the part of the interface that says "iMessage from..." will say "Kik from..." or "WhatsApp from..." instead.

It is important to keep in mind that in order for the tweak to work, the application that you want to Quick Reply with must be running in the background. With that being said, if you close the application you want to Quick Reply from via your App Switcher, the Quick Reply functionality will not appear in the notification banner.

Hermes adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can enable or disable the tweak for Messages, Kik, or WhatsApp Messenger on demand. A respring button is included so that you can save your settings and get started:

Hermes uses iOS' built-in alert system to let you reply to messages, so the developer notes that this will help keep the tweak as light-weight as possible without draining your battery life like other Quick Reply competitors can. Hermes is an open source jailbreak tweak, meaning the developer has made the source code available to the public to see for learning purposes. You can view the source code on GitHub at this link.

If you would like to give Hermes a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for just 99. iOS 7 is required for the install.

Well, they all have different reply functions so pick whichever one you prefer most.

This one works with kik, which is great for me because that is my primary method of communication as opposed to iMessage.

This seems like the first one for WhatsApp in iOS 7.

If you know another QR tweak for WhatsApp that is compatible with iOS 7, please share here.

    Thanks.

Having to need it in the background lowers this tweak's functionality a twofold.

We wouldn't need any if apple would hurry up an release iOS 8. But I won't get any of these QR apps without the ability to QC and QR from the lock screen. And why does this only work if you have an app running in the background? It should always allow you to QR/QC from anywhere. BiteSMS is still the #1 choice for me.
