How to Enable the Battery Percentage Indicator On Your iPod Touch 5g
If you've got an iPhone or iPad, then you may be enjoying the fact that you can have a numeric battery percentage in your Status Bar next to the battery icon. For whatever reason, Apple doesn't allow this feature on the iPod touch 5g.
If you've got an iPod touch 5g and you'd like to enable the battery percentage on the Status Bar, you can download a new free jailbreak tweak called Battery Percentage Enabler by iOS developer Joshposh2012 to enable the feature for yourself.
This simple tweak adds a preferences pane to your Settings application on your iPod touch 5g where you can enable or disable the numeric battery percentage indicator on demand, as shown below:
If you'd like to grab this tweak and enable the numeric battery percentage on your iPod touch 5g, you can download the tweak for free right now from Cydia's BigBoss repository. The tweak is intended only for iOS 7.
Name: Battery Percentage Enabler
Requirements: iOS 7.0-7.0.6, iPod touch 5g
Editor's Rating: 5/5

Does this old trick to do it without a jailbreak no longer work?
Backup your iPod with iTunes.
Load your backup onto a device that supports numeric battery indicator.
Enable numeric battery indicator.
Make a backup of this second device with iTunes.
Restore latest backup from second device onto iPod.
I know it worked between iPhones when the 3G didn't support it and newer phones like the 4 and 4S did.
