'SmartTap' Keeps the Display's Digitizer On When the Screen Goes Off for New Features
iOS developer Elias Limneos has struck a home run once again with his latest jailbreak tweak release dubbed SmartTap.
SmartTap is a new jailbreak tweak that will keep your device's display digitizer awake even when the screen is turned off. This allows you to take advantage of new ways to unlock your device without having to use any buttons, which is great for people that have malfunctioning Home or Power buttons, and it's also great for people that just want the new feature to show off.
The way the tweak works is pretty simple. You can turn your display off by double-tapping on the display, but the digitizer will stay awake. Once your display is off, you can double-tap again and your Lock Screen will be presented to you. Alternatively, you can swipe upwards on the display while the display is off, and your digitizer will sense it, and your iOS device will be unlocked.
The additional shortcuts can be configured from the tweak's preferences pane, which is added to the Settings application:
From here, you can enable or disable the tweak on demand, as well as configure the different things you can do while the digitizer is on and your display is off.
Double-tapping on the display can be configured to do nothing, turn on the screen, unlock the device, or launch an application. You can also assign swiping up from the bottom of the display, or swiping down from the top of the display to any of these four options.
Below this, you will be able to enable or disable double-tapping on the Home Screen to lock the device, and double-tapping on the Lock Screen to lock the device.
Additional features you can choose to use are "Smart touch detection," which will prevent false touches while in your pocket, "Prevent idle sleep," which will keep your digitizer from falling asleep after a certain amount of time set by Apple, and "Speak events," which will make the device speak out any recognized events while the screen is turned off.
It's worth mentioning that because of the nature of the tweak, you might see minor battery drain, but the developer claims that it won't be very much and that it should be unnoticeable for the most part. SmartTap is fully integrated with FlipSwitch so that you can toggle it on or off on demand. The tweak does require iOS 7 to be installed, although it works on all iOS devices including the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.
If you would like to give SmartTap a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository for just $1.99.

It KILLS battery. Nice tweak, but starting the day at about 9 in the morning till about 1 I was down to 50% battery without really using my phone. I took it off and my battery lasted the rest of the day. Just a warning. It is a very cool tweak though.

...the prob is, when using LockHTML3 and an UNiAW LS, it doesnt go into sleep mode and the animated weather from UNiAW drains the battery as hell :/

I agree with holyshnikes- Great tweak, but it killed my battery too. Normally I will get 3-4 days of battery with my typical lite use. This killed the battery in 1 day with lite use. I left it installed, but turned it off, and battery drain stopped. I had a similar tweak on my Galaxy Nexus, and there was no battery drain there. Keep tweaking it dev. This has great promise.
