iPhone Coming to Another Prepaid Carrier?
The scuttlebutt ahead of the weekend is that MetroPCS is on a mission to offer Apple's iPhone to subscribers in the very near future.
The prepaid U.S. carrier, which is owned by T-Mobile, has reportedly had its sights set on the iPhone for some time now.
“We are very interested in that,” Chief Marketing Officer Mike Sievert told Re/code in this week's report. “We think the Metro PCS customer would be as well.” Last year, CEO John Legere confirmed interest in bringing Apple's smartphone to MetroPCS but it wasn't presented as an immediate and pressing objective.
But that may have now changed. And Apple could benefit just as much from the partnership, as Metro PCS boasts an estimated 2 million subscribers as of the most recent industry data available. And, as we've witnessed through Apple's success with Sprint's Virgin Mobile brand, there's a big world of opportunity out there for Apple's iPhone in realm of prepaid carriers.
