Popular VLC iOS App Gets Media Folders, Support for New Filetypes, and More
On Friday, VideoLAN updated their highly popular VLC media player for iOS, making version 2.3.0 the latest release. VLC was originally released for iOS in July of last year, and has slowly gained more and more improvements over the time it has been available.
Friday's update gives the application a slew of new features, as well as bug fixes and improvements. In terms of the new features, users can now separate their media into folders for better organization, toggle playback gesture controls on or off for convenience, toggle bold subtitles for the hard at seeing, take advantage of password-protected HTTP streams, and even take advantage of the improved UPnP detection and the new support for the m4b, caf, oma, w64 audio and mxg video file types.
It's worth noting that the application also now supports translations in Latvian, Romanian and British English.
In terms of bug fixes and improvements, VideoLAN has been hard at work in fixing crashes and interface bugs, as well as improving the stability and usability of main functions like serial FTP downloads, UPnP server downloads, playback controls in Control Center and on the Lock Screen, Wi-Fi improvements, and more.
Existing users of the VLC application for iOS will find the update under the Updates tab in their App Store application. Alternatively, you can download the latest version of VLC for iOS for free from this App Store link. While not updated, VLC media player is also available for your personal computer at the developers' Web page at this link.
