How to Add a Wikipedia Widget to Your Installation of ProWidgets
Last month, we showed you a really awesome widget platform called ProWidgets by iOS developer Alan Yip. We also told you that third-party developers could take advantage of the platform to create their own widgets that could be downloaded as separate packages from Cydia. So far, we've shown you a widget that can translate text on demand, a widget that gives you respring options, and even a widget that can access information for you on WolframAlpha.
Another new widget that you can add to your ProWidgets collection is one called Wikipedia ProWidget by iOS developer Tim Perin. As the name suggests, you will be able to use it to quickly access information on Wikipedia.
Shown above, you can see what the Wikipedia ProWidget widget looks like. It's bare-bones, and if there's something you want to look up, you just type it into the text field. Tapping on the Search button will process your search and display the most likely search result, or you can tap on the Close button to completely close the widget. The part of the widget that displays your search result is full-screen.
At the top of the search result, where it says "Result," you can tap on that and it will copy the link to the Web page of the search result so that you can share it. When you do this, the text will change to "Link Copied:"
As we showed you in the original review of ProWidgets, the tweak supports several different ways of opening different widgets. If you're an Activator fan, then you can assign an Activator action to Wikipedia ProWidget. Alternatively, you can use CCLoader to add a quick shortcut to Control Center, or you can configure some of the built-in ProWidgets shortcuts for Notification Center without installing more tweaks like we did below:
Wikipedia ProWidget seems to be a really handy way to look up information on Wikipedia in a snap. If you would like to give it a try, it's available for free right now in Cydia's BigBoss repository. On the other hand, it does require that you have ProWidgets, which is a $2.99 purchase from Cydia's BigBoss repository if you don't already have it.
