'Rendarya' Adds Numerous New Photo Editing Features to Apple's Photos App
Apple gives you some really basic photo editing features in the Photos application for iOS, but they're too simple to really have any useful impact on our photos. A new jailbreak tweak called Rendarya by iOS developer iMokhles is now available in Cydia that will give you the photo editing features that you really want – and the best part, it integrates all of these features seamlessly into your Photos application like you would expect.
When you install the tweak, you will be able to pick a photo in your Photo Library, and then when you tap on the Edit button, rather than being brought to the basic photo editing functions that Apple gives you, you will be see all of the options shown above.
The options include:
- Blur and Focus
- Tone Curves
- Adding Text
The filters section of Rendarya acts similarly to the filters of Instagram. You'll get plenty of filter options, including the following:
You will see live previews of the different filter options at the bottom of the display, and tapping on one of the filters will apply the filter to the photo. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
The adjustments section of Rendarya gives you sliders for adjusting the brightness of the photo, the darkness of the photo, and the color saturation of the photo. There are three sliders to adjusting these options, and your changes take effect in real time. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
The effects section of Rendarya might resemble the filters section, but it's a little different. Here, you can apply different photo effects to your photos. You have the following options here:
You will see live previews of the different effect options at the bottom of the display, and tapping on one of the effects will apply the effect to the photo. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
Blur and Focus
From the blur and focus section, you can adjust the blur and focus of your photo to set a focal point. You can use normal means of blur and focus, circular means of blur and focus, or even set a band style of blur and focus. There is a slider to adjust the blur intensity. Changes will take effect in real time so you can see what you're doing. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
There's also a rotation section where you can rotate the photo to your liking. You can use the slider to rotate the photo a custom amount, or you can use the 90º button to rotate the photo 90º clockwise, use the flip vertical button to flip the photo across a vertical plane, or use the flip horizontal button to flip the photo across a horizontal plane. Changes take effect in real time. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
A cropping section will give you additional cropping options. You can choose a custom cropping amount, or you can choose from the following presets:
Tapping on the cropping options at the bottom of the screen will apply them in real time. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
In the event that you need to scale a photo, there is a re-sizing option too. From here, you can choose a custom image size, or pick from any of the following presets:
Tapping on the re-sizing options at the bottom of the display will apply them to the photo in real time. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
The tone curve feature allows you to adjust the tone of your photo using a special graph. You can move the points on the graph to new locations to adjust the tone of the photo, and there's a reset button at the bottom right so you can set it back to default. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes here.
If you want to be funny, you can even add stickers to your photographs. There are plenty to choose from, including:
- Witch Hat
- Kissy Lips
- Flower Basket
- Grim Reaper
Stickers can be placed anywhere on the photo, and can be re-sized to your liking. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
In addition to stickers, you can also use emotions in the same way. You have the following emoticons to pick from:
- Tongue Out Smile
- Vampire Smile
- Money Sign Smile
- Eyes Closed Tongue Out Smile
- Love Smile
- Eyepatch Smile
- Angry Face
- Sad Face
- Big Smile
- Mouth Wide Open
Like the stickers, emoticons can be placed anywhere on the photo and can be re-sized to your liking. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
Finally, the tweak also gives you the ability to add text to photos. You can tap on the "+" button to add new text. You can also change the color of the text, edit the text, change the font of the text, and align the text either to the left, center, or right. You can tap on the OK button to save your changes.
Rendarya adds a preferences pane to the Settings application where you can choose the features that you want enabled in the Photos application. Features that are turned on will appear in the Editing section, and features that are turned off will not appear:
Rendarya is one of the cooler jailbreak tweaks we've seen for photo editing in iOS. The tweak supports both iOS 6 and iOS 7 and supports iPhones and iPod touches – the iPad is not supported. If you would like to give it a try, it's available in Cydia's BigBoss repository right now for $1.99.
Requirements: iOS 6.0-7.0.6
Tested on: iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.6
Editor's Rating: 5/5

Same things happening to me. I wonder what it's conflicting with. I'd rather use this tweak
Once I was able to get everything turned on in the settings pane. It edits and saves the photos just fine. I clicked 2 or 3 on a time before it resprung. Now I'll just leave it until an update comes out.
