Default iOS 8 Could Bring Preview and TextEdit Apps to iOS With iCloud Integration

Over the last couple of days, rumors have been surfacing saying that iOS 8 would come with improved Maps that would include public transit directions and augmented reality, and that iOS 8 would bring a standalone iTunes Radio application to help spur use of the application for those that don't use the Music application in iOS.

A new report via 9to5Mac claims that iOS 8 will also bring some new features to iCloud, including iOS versions of TextEdit and Preview applications, which come with Mac OS X out of the box, allowing iOS users to view documents created with Mac OS X that are stored in iCloud, but won't be so much for editing them:

Apple is developing versions of the Mac operating systemís Preview and TextEdit applications that are optimized for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The applications are said to not be designed to actually edit PDFs, images, or text documents. Instead, the apps are built to serve as tools to view Preview and TextEdit files stored in iCloud by OS X. Apple added iCloud synchronization for Preview and TextEdit with OS X Mountain Lion, but has not yet released iOS counterparts to actually view the synchronized content.
Notably, for users that want to actually be productive with iCloud and documents stored in it, iOS users can opt to use Apple's iWork applications for iOS, which actually offer document-editing functionality and work between both iOS and Mac OS X versions of the applications. Apple began offering iWork applications for free with new iOS device purchases in September of last year.

It should be interesting to see how users will use this feature should it become available in iOS 8. Hopefully it won't be locked down as the report suggests, and users will actually be able to edit simple photos and documents through the mobile Preview and TextEdit applications.
