Default iOS 8 Will Reportedly Offer Improved Maps With Transit Directions and More

As we get closer to the Summer this year, we are also getting closer to the revealing of iOS 8 and the new features that Apple has in store for us. iOS 7 was already a huge upgrade from iOS 6, and it feels like the time has just flown by. iOS 8 is expected to drop this year in the Fall, around the same time iOS 7 was released last year.

iOS 8 will reportedly have a very large impact on the reliability and features of the Maps application in iOS, which shipped originally with iOS 6 and has been under fire from users about not being as reliable as its largest competitor – Google Maps. It was so bad for the company that Apple CEO Tim Cook had posted an apology letter to users, and Apple made a dedicated section in the App Store merely for users to try out alternatives to the company's Maps application.

It would appear that the recent Job Listings at Apple for public transit integration in the pre-installed Maps application in iOS are not to be taken lightly. 9to5Mac reports that iOS 8's Maps application will focus heavily on improvements to the Maps application, including the addition of different types of public transit directions. 9to5Mac created the following depiction of what the iOS 8 Maps application might look like with these new features:

According to the report, users will be able to take advantage of tabs at the top of the application to pick between driving, walking, or public transit directions.

We don't know for sure just yet exactly what Apple plans to do with the Maps application in iOS 8, but it's nice to see that Apple appears to be holding their promise to continue improving their mapping service for users.

7.1 probably won't happen. Apple will release more iOS updates before the iOS 8 installment.

All I want from IOS8 is the removal of everything white. Go back to the old look of gray would be good.
The white and lack of polish makes it look cheap and crappy like no design has been put into it at all.

I so agree with you. all they had to do was duplicate google maps and better it. I think they under 'cooked' it.
