Default Apple Confirms it is Working on a Fix for the Random iOS 7 Crashing Issue

Apple recently confirmed that it was working on a fix for an issue that causes devices running iOS 7 to randomly crash and reboot – an issue that many users have been seeing since the mobile operating system debuted in September.

The Cupertino California company recently launched iOS 7 last September and it bet big on a completely redesigned and reimagined flagship product. Many of the changes were met with praise but bugs in iMessage, iCloud and other features plagued the mobile OS since release. One of the more concerning issues involves reports of continual crashing during normal use, which sees devices randomly conduct soft restarts for no apparent reason. After keeping quiet on the subject, Apple has finally revealed that it is indeed working on a fix that will be included in an upcoming software update. Apple spokesperson Trudy Muller had the following to say regarding the matter:

We have a fix in an upcoming software update for a bug that can occasionally cause a home screen crash.
The iOS 7 problem has been dubbed by some as the “white/black screen of death” in reference to Windows’ “blue screen of death” system failure. As of iOS 7, iPhones with black faces show a black screen with a white Apple logo while those with white faces display the opposite. Illustrating the extent of so-called “white/black screen of death” problems, Mashable points to an Apple Support Communities forum thread filled with similar complaints.

In most cases, users affected by the crash see a sudden and seemingly random reboot sequence. The cause of the soft restart remains unknown though some forum members claim the issue presents itself more frequently when power levels are below 30%. It isn’t clear when Apple plans to roll out the patch but an optimal launch period may be on the horizon with the upcoming iOS 7.1 software update. Developers were provided with a fourth iOS 7.1 beta version for testing, though the seed notes made no mention of a rebooting bug fix.

We will just have to wait and see.

I have experience with this bug.

Frustrating sometimes, it either crashes during normal usage, or during setup of icloud, and this is after a full DFU restore

It did this before I jailbroke my iphone 5s. But now I can't even tell if it's a jailbroken app or just the firmware.

My iPhone is already jailbroken, and i have experienced this problem twice. Is it possible to create a tweak to fix this once the software update is out so i dont have to rejailbreak?

Something is VERY wrong with your phone then if it's a 5S. Stock unjailbroken 5S on 7.0.4 is the best battery life since iPhone 4. I sometimes get 18 hours into the next day before I have to recharge. Jail breaking makes it more like 12 hours.. Not sure why I lose that much battery with just a jail break - but I've tested quite thoroughly.

    Always practice sensible battery conservation.
1)Turn off Bluetooth if you don't use it - HUGE battery hog
    2) Brightness 60%
    3) In Privacy/Location Services/System - turn of every switch in there except Traffic. You don't need ANY of the others. And they're battery hogs
    4) Turn Push Mail off except for work email if you must have it. Remember all mail updates immediately the moment you open the mail app. Push Mail is mostly a gimmick. And a huge battery hog.

I get all the way thru my day - 12 hours - with no charge necessary - doing moderate to heavy use: text, email, forums, calls.
Here to help if I can. If I can't I know someone who can!

When you update the firmware, how are you going to reJailbreak? Currently a Jailbreak for 7.1 does not exist!

OP sounds like s/he is asking if a module will be built that replaces the buggy files on an already jailbroken device.

And the conspiracy theorist in me still thinks apple leaves small bugs in its fw when it knows a jb is imminent.

Most of the reports of these sudden shutdowns seem to involve any use of the camera with battery at or below 50% charge. I was getting this myself on my almost two year old 4S, but just had it replaced at Apple and all seems good. Thank you Applecare.

    Same here.
I also get lag/freezing for about 4 to 10 second occasionally... which is at random and can happen anywhere from trying to wake the device or go into a app. anyone else getting this?

    What purpose would this serve?

So Apple would purposely release faulty firmware so that 2-3% of its users/customers will be stuck with it in the event that after the exploits are patched, a new JB won't be released?

Now that's reaching a little far for such a small payoff.
