Default Limneos Teases Upcoming Tweak for Opening Apps With Touch ID on iPhone 5s

While those with an iPhone 5s might be waiting for 64-bit Mobile Substrate support, that doesn’t mean that an update isn’t coming soon, and jailbreak developers will soon be able to tap into Apple’s Touch ID to do some really cool things.

One iOS developer that goes by the name of Limneos, well-known for his work on the popular CallBar jailbreak tweak, has already been working on a project that uses Touch ID for launching applications on the home screen.

When installed, if the user tries to open an application on their home screen, they will be asked to authenticate themselves via the use of Touch ID before the application will open. A pop-up titled "Limneos Bio Authenticate" pops up asking the user to put their finger on the Touch ID scanner. You can check out Limneos' video demonstration of the tweak via the YouTube video below:

For those with an iPhone 5s, this kind of authentication will blow password authentication right out of the water. There have been several security jailbreak tweaks in the past the require a password or PIN number before an application will be opened, but with Touch ID, combined with this upcoming jailbreak tweak, the user no longer has to type anything in, rather the Touch ID sensor will do all of the work for them.

With the additional security, iPhone 5s users will feel safe in knowing that they're the only ones that can open the applications on their home screen.

Limneos' teaser video has no information regarding a release date or price, but it's certain that it won't be released until Mobile Substrate is first publicly updated to support 64-bit devices.

It took quite some time for us to even get this JB. It will only be a bit longer before the Mobile Substrate is updated for the 64bit architecture that your iPhone 5s houses. Patience is key. I'd rather wait than deal with some buggy tweaks that don't work.

I though that nobody could access the chip where the fingerprint is stored... I mean didnt tim cook say that when announcing the new iphone 5s??

They cannot access your fingerprint as it is encrypted. But they can still take advantage touch id. Even apple said eventually they will put of an API for touch Id that devs can use. (Think of using a mobile banking app logging in with touch id. More security + faster login. Everybody wins )

Was seriously hoping something like this would pop up once a jailbreak hit the scene. I was hoping it would be included with the next Lockdown Pro update since it's one of my favorite apps. Even when the updated MS drops ill still wait to see what LDP has to offer before grabbing this... It definitely a must buy for me since I use quite a few financial apps and such on my phone.

It looks like just a wallpaper but it is reactive to where he touches.

I wonder what the security implications are with someone hacking the TouchID technology to use with jb apps? Didn't Apple say that the hardware wasn't linked to any software to keep people from stealing other peoples fingerprints?

Its a finger print "recognition pad". There's no such thing as "hacking it". The beauty of this fingerprint technology is that it takes a person's "actual" fingerprint to engage the unlock mechanism of any software using it. It's not like you can print out the image and lay the image on the scanner.

Retinal and fingerprint scanners are as hack proof as it gets.

    Just had a brilliant idea...

Activator. TouchID. Using different fingers for different actions/launching different apps.

    Boom.
