Twitter Changes its Mind On Allowing Users to Receive DMs From Any Follower
Last month, in what was thought to be a step forward in the way Twitter lets users connect with other users, Twitter rolled out a new option in its mobile application allowing users to receive direct messages (DM) from followers that the user didn't follow.
According to a new report via The Next Web, Twitter has apparently changed its mind on the feature, which the social network dubbed an “experiment” in response to users wondering what happened to the feature.
Now with the feature removed, Twitter users can only direct message each other if both users are following each other. This brings the direct message functionality back to the way it was before the new feature was initially introduced.
It’s unclear why exactly Twitter has changed its mind on the new direct messaging feature, but Twitter is reportedly working on a standalone application for direct messaging users that will be similar to Facebook’s Facebook Messenger application for iOS, which just recently received a major update. The feature may make its way back in the future, or maybe not.

Made a twitter account shortly after it was released.
Used it for 5 minutes.
Have not logged back in in 3 or more years.
All of a sudden had ~20 followers.
Don't know how to use it.
Doesn't really bother me.
