Default Nest Mobile App Update Leaves Many Users Frustrated

Nest recently released Nest Mobile 4.0 which has actually left many users confused and angry. The updated version has a completely redesigned UI with many functions moved to places where they weren’t before. Some of the features seem to be tucked away that they seem hidden and several App Store reviewers believe certain functions are just plain gone.

Some examples include customers complaining that scheduled adjustments are gone but instead, they are actually just harder to find. You have to click on the thermostat first to maximize it then a menu icon at the upper right, which will reveal things like energy history and the scheduler. When the thermostat isn’t maximized, the same icon does something else – leaving users far more confused than ever before.

Furthermore, the tooltips and help section don’t seem to be available either nor did the company send out an email introducing the update to customers – an idea which probably would have helped quite a bit. Nest has generally had great reviews and satisfied customers but the latest version of the iOS app has just left many consumers left wanting more.

There may be an update to help resolve some of the issues and complaints in the future, but as of right now nothing has been mentioned regarding the matter. If you happen to be one of the people who have downloaded the updated version, you’ll just have to poke around a bit to get used to where things have been moved.

Are you a Nest owner who has updated to version 4.0 of the mobile app? If so, how has your experience been?

People don't like change, fix which wasn't broken, change what worked just fine, and break what was working flawless. Sounds like typical iOS 7 UI update madness.

    I don't have a nest...

I have a nest but if the update makes everything hard to find I will just not do the update for now

The update gives you full functionality in portrait mode which was sorely lacking!

It took like 2 minutes to find "everything". In fact, they added a set of up/down arrows allowing you to change the temp setting much easier. And turning on the fan only is much easier too. Not sure why "many users frustrated".

There are many instances I would to revert to the previous version of an app.

I don't have a Nest but I have been thinking of getting one.

Waiting for the update to be pushed to my thermostat before I update. Not sure why but wanted them in sync lol.

I once bought some software whose UI stayed exactly the same and my perception was that nothing changed. In reality a lot on the backend did change and the software was well worth the cost.

I like the update, the original app was dated. the only options which are needed (temp up / down) away end away are right there, whats hidden? things you will never need to change once set.

I returned my Nest and went with a wifi Honeywell thermostat downloaded the free app from the App Store and it works. Flawless and very glad I did I would recommend the Honeywell to anyone over the Nest.

I looked at the marketing video for that wifi honeywell and it seems big. Has a lot to display on screen though. But it didn't really talk about scheduling. I would like to know if scheduling is like compared to Nest. Like the iPad app they have and it it has a lot in it.
