'Boxy' Lets You Configure Your Home Screen Layout to the Way You Want it
If you’re a themer, or you use widgets on your home screen, then you may be interested in changing the layout of your home screen’s application icons so that you can make room for the additional elements you add to your home screen. For themers, this might mean adjusting the layout of your application icons to go along with the smaller or larger application icons, while for widget users, this might mean leaving a large portion of the home screen empty to make room for the widget.
With a new jailbreak tweak called Boxy by iOS developer william_vab, you can change the layout of your home screen’s application icons. The tweak lets you adjust the layout manually, through the use of numeric values, but if you don’t want to deal with the numbers, the tweak also comes with a number of presets that you can use, which have been automatically set by the developer.
To begin using the tweak, you'll want to visit the preferences pane in the Settings application:
You’ll find a killswitch, which will let you enable or disable the tweak on demand, as well as a number of fields where you can input a number of pixels for the application icons to move from their default locations. You will be able to edit the vertical icon padding, the horizontal icon padding, the side icon inset, the bottom icon inset, and the top icon inset.
Below the text fields, you will find presets, which are automatically-configured application icon layouts, as well as the abilty to show or hide the page dots and the application icon names. The list of presets include the following:
- User configuration (this means manual; the numbers you put in the text fields will be used if you select this option)
- Default box
- Ideal for Ayecon
- Even spread
- Top left
- Top center
- Top right
- Bottom right
- Bottom center
- Bottom left
- Bottom half
- Top half
You'll also notice that these settings are separate for iPad users, which will find their own presets at the bottom of the preferences pane.
Any time you make changes to the preferences for Boxy, you will want to tap on the "Apply Changes" button at the bottom of the preferences pane. This saves your changes, and resprings your iOS device. If you're manually changing the numbers, you may have to do this several times until you feel the application icon positioning on the home screen is just right.
It should be noted that any changes you make to the home screen layout will not carry over page to page. Boxy does not let you configure the home screen application icon layout on a page-by-page basis. Instead, if you make a change to your home screen, all of the pages will have the same layout.
Whether you're using Boxy to make room for themes or widgets, or you just want to have a custom home screen layout, it's a pretty simple tweak that's short and to the point. If you want to give it a try, it's available in Cydia's ModMyi repository.

I would like to see a tweak (I don't know if one exists or not) that allows you to change the size of any application icon through settings. Like the ability to make it 1x1 (default), 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4.
